MUTILATION
2023"Mutilation" (2023) is a physical manifestation of gender dysphoria and body dysmorphia. These garments offer a temporary and impractical alternative to binding or surgery with roll-up boobs. The appendages are hand-sewn with silk and lace, screen printed and attached to the everyday canvas of a cotton t-shirt. The wearer experiences an unfamiliar body part, and although they are "removable" the disconcerting sensation remains. "Mutilation" is an encounter with my dysphoria, presenting the intimacy of queerness in an approachable manner. This exploration is a step towards answering the so-called "trans question" which disguises transphobia as a moral issue. Trans healthcare is definitively life-saving, and "Mutilation" is an opportunity to catch a glimpse of why.Size MSilk, lace, t-shirt
